Don't be discouraged, this thing happens all the time. When I was on the road with Echoing Angels, we came into our green room at a 1000+ youth evangelism conference, to find a note from a kid stating about the same thing. The only difference was that this young boy was about 13 years old. It was a little bit of a bummer to read.

But we had to realize that this boy just obviously didn't worship the same as we do. Whether he was brought up that way or just has really strong personal convictions about it. You have to remember, its not a matter of our relationship with God being right and his being wrong. Some people just dont worship that way. I don't. I honestly hate 99% of Christian music. I can fully worship when I'm playing it, because the guitar is my offering back. But I don't expect anyone else to understand that, because it's MY relationship with God and not there's.

So keep rocking the way you do because it really doesn't matter if anyone is even there. And besides, you look so cute with your vests and tele.

Good post.

As you've probably heard me say before, the band is made up of guys who are so cool that they don't ever have to try to be cool. They just are and everyone knows it. They don't have to try to broadcast it. :]

Don't let that girl's comments get you down...you can't please everyone. Oak Leaf just isn't the place for her, but thankfully there are plenty of other churches in town for the people who are looking for something else.

The trick is to take an ordinary idea & give it your own unique flavor. You're the secret ingredient in your own unique recipe, Marcus. Here's a quote from Sting: "There aren't any original ideas. The most successful song I ever wrote, 'Every Breath You Take' is an aggregate of every rock song ever written, there's nothing original in it at all. It's a million songs, but it's archetypal; it doesn't sound like anybody else, it sounds like The Police"

I had a Lit teacher in college who said that when we were writing poetry, it was perfectly fine to rip off someone else's ideas sometimes...for instance, if you hear a quote you like somewhere, work it into your poem and just remember where you originally heard the quote. (It's so hard to come up with anything original anymore, anyway, because it seems like everything has already been done...maybe more than once).

I'd imagine if you do that a bit in the beginning, it'll help you structure your own ideas and soon you'll be coming up with your own ideas without much trouble.

Since lyricists are modern day poets, maybe it'll work for you!
